In Brno we operate a multifunctional Centre of Excellence (CoE) with more than 650 colleagues, around 200 people work in IT.

Our IT department consists of:

What will you do?

We work in Agile environment with a wide scale of technologies like PHP, JavaScript, .NET, Oracle, Linux/Windows or Microsoft Parallel Data Warehouse. Our Brno IT teams are responsible for one of the biggest eCommerce platforms in Europe which serves a quarter of UK population per year, develop many internal as well as customer-facing applications, and support the business in several countries under various brands of Dixons Carphone. Our technology stack contains a mixture of on-premise infrastructure in dedicated datacentres, virtualised environments and cloud-based services running as SaaS in multiple locations. Our teams cooperate with other IT locations based in UK, Norway, Portugal, and Ukraine.

  • Provide inspirational leadership to the team based in CoE Brno;
  • Arrange regular reviews with staff members in order to maximise staff performance and potential. Provide regular coaching and feedback to the team to encourage improved performance;
  • Provide advice and guidance on best practice to the teams, participating in benchmarking, peer reviews and in local industry initiatives, conferences etc;
  • Develop and improve the engagement score, maintain a positive office aligned to the group culture and Dixons Carphone group values. Ensure that Brno CoE remains a great place to work;
  • Build a tight collaborative community between Brno and the wider DCG IT team. Champion integration of teams;
  • Together with UK Technology leadership prioritise conflicting project and programme needs;
  • Together with UK Technology leadership manage resourcing needs to meet business demands;
  • Embed and maintain defined IT standards. Advocate for Agile methodology and ways of working;
  • Act as local IT Director for all IT related matters including managing local vendors to deliver to contracted service requirements, responsible for contract negotiations;
  • Act as a senior representative for Dixons Carphone within the local Brno community and the Czech Association of Business Services Leaders (ABSL);
  • Chair weekly/monthly meetings with stakeholders (to review status of the service and development portfolios);
  • Accountable for the delivery of the Brno IT budgets;
  • Manage the local IT team who support local user desktops and servers; and
  • Accountable for local disaster recovery processes and documentation in conjunction with the UK Infrastructure team.

Now you’re probably wondering what skills and knowledge we expect from you? Well…

  • Extensive leadership experience (100+ FTE)
  • Experience within similar international type of IT environment
  • Experience in transforming environments and managing change
  • Excellent level of English, Czech is not required
  • Experience within a software development environment, knowledge of e-commerce is an advantage
  • Experience of running a major critical service
  • Knowledge of Cloud, Devops, automation, architecture and Agile delivery methods is an advantage
  • Knowledge of engineering best practices, especially in an agile environment of productised teams
  • Clear communicator with strong coaching skills
  • Good commercial awareness, analytical judgment, and decision-making skills, coupled with good problem-solving skills and ability to filter and prioritise information
